There isn't a reliable way to turn stock trading into a guaranteed $100–$500 every day. Your required account size depends heavily on your strategy, risk per trade, and expected return.

For example, if you were targeting:

  • $100/day → $2,000/month over 20 trading days
  • $250/day → $5,000/month
  • $500/day → $10,000/month

But the important part is that losses also happen. A trader targeting $500 on a good day could lose $500—or substantially more—on a bad day.

For a beginner, I'd focus less on a daily dollar target and more on risk management:

  1. Start with a strategy you can test historically and in a paper-trading account.
  2. Risk only a small, predefined percentage of your account on each trade.
  3. Set a maximum daily loss and stop trading when you reach it.
  4. Don't increase position size just because you had a winning streak.
  5. Keep trading money separate from emergency savings and living expenses.
  6. Be especially careful with margin and options. FINRA notes that frequent intraday trading can result in losses and that margin can expose traders to losses beyond their initial investment.

One useful way to think about it is:

Desired daily income ÷ realistic expected return = approximate capital requirement

So if someone wants to make $500/day consistently, the question isn't really “Which stock can make me $500 today?”It's “What strategy, capital, risk level and long-term expectancy could potentially support that target?”

Also, don't confuse a few profitable days with a sustainable trading income. The SEC specifically warns investors to be cautious of claims promising large or easy day-trading profits.

Honestly, I don’t think you should start trading with the mindset of making $100–$500 every single day. Some days the market will give you good opportunities, and some days it simply won’t.

How much you can realistically make depends on your capital, strategy and risk management. For example, making $100 from a $25,000 account is very different from trying to make $100 from a $2,000 account.

I’d focus more on protecting the account first. Use small position sizes, keep a stop-loss, and don’t increase your risk just because you had a losing day. If your strategy is genuinely profitable over many trades, the daily income can follow naturally.

Trying to force a fixed daily target is where a lot of traders get into trouble.
